“Transportation keeps our economy and our citizens moving. As public dollars become more limited, it’s more important than ever to use them wisely and to figure out what innovative solutions are available to keep the system safe and efficient today and in the future.”
~Governor Luis Fortuño
Transportation keeps people and products moving and the engines of the economy turning. But, today our transportation systems are stretched to the limits in terms of both capacity and efficiency. Whether it is congestion in our growing cities, crumbling transit facilities, or the dwindling Highway Trust Fund, these challenges require us to re-think the way we fund, build, and manage our infrastructure.
Puerto Rico needs a 21st century transportation system that is well-planned, intermodal, and efficient. We are exploring innovative ways to finance and maintain this type of world-class system. At the same time, Governor Fortuño is working with Congress to obtain federal funding for critical road-building and other transportation-related projects throughout the Island. These funds will help improve Puerto Rico’s highway and other transportation infrastructure, mitigate traffic congestion, and create new jobs in the construction and related sectors.
