Health Parity for Puerto Rico
All Americans should have access to quality, affordable health care for themselves and their families, regardless of whether they live in a state or a territory. This includes the four million U.S. citizens that reside in Puerto Rico.
Puerto Rico participates in all the programs that will be at the core of health care reform – Medicaid, Medicare, and CHIP – but with significant differences and disadvantages. These disparities impact care for patients across the health care system and place an enormous financial strain on the government, individuals and families, employers and employees, and public and private providers. If the goal is to use existing programs as building blocks for reform that includes all Americans, parity for Puerto Rico in federal funding for programs like Medicaid and Medicare is an essential first step.
Add your name to the growing list of Americans who are urging Congress to end these disparities so that the people of Puerto Rico can be fully integrated into the health care system on an equal basis with their fellow American citizens.
